R350 can be collected at Pick n Pay and Boxer stores “Pick n Pay and Boxer are proud to assist grant beneficiaries access their funds more conveniently and safely, ensuring they receive much needed relief quicker than before,” said John Bradshaw, retail executive for Omnichannel, Pick n Pay.

Step-by-step process to collect the SRD grant:

  • 1. The grant applicant receives an SMS from the South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) confirming their successful application.
  • 2. A grant beneficiary will receive an SMS message from SASSA confirming collection point and advising on the day of collection.
  • 3. Beneficiary must take their ID and physical cellphone (number registered at SASSA) along to the store when collecting their grant.
  • 4. Enter ID number and the registered SASSA cell phone number at the till point to confirm the funds are available for collection.
  • 5. Beneficiary immediately receives a USSD message to which they must approve on their cellphone before the cash is handed over.
  • Beneficiaries will never be asked to enter personal information on their cellphones or to click on a link.
  • Pick n Pay and Boxer do not manage the application and approval of grant funds, or when and where collections can be made. This is a process run entirely by Postbank.
  • Only grant recipients who have received an SMS from SASSA confirming their collection pay-out point as either Pick n Pay or Boxer can use the new collections points.
  • Pick n Pay collection points exclude BP Pick n Pay Express, Pick n Pay Clothing and Pick n Pay Liquor stores.
  • Pick n Pay is also a SASSA grant payout point. These payments are made over three days each month for eligible pension, disability and child grants.

Once you’ve submitted your application for SASSA’s R350 Social Relief Of Distress (SRD) grant, you can track it on WhatsApp. This is one of the few platforms that SASSA has given applicants as an option to track the progress of their applications.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Add 082 046 8553 as a contact
  2. Open your WhatsApp and refresh your contacts
  3. Open a chat with the (082 046 8553) number you have saved
  4. Send a message to the number saying ‘status’
  5. Now you will be able to check the progress on your grant.

Once your chat has been noted, you will be required to provide your ID number as well as the cellphone number you used when applying for the grant.

SASSA has started the process of paying out the grant to successful beneficiaries. Those who have not yet received payments have been urged to wait until they receive a text message from SASSA, before trying to collect the grant.

There is no specific payment date for the R350 grant, as it is a temporary grant that will be coming to an end in March 2022.

“The post office does not pay the SRD grant during the normal social grant payments of the Old Age, disability and children’s grants”

“The last three digits of approved beneficiaries’ identity numbers will be used for payment collection on a specific day of the week. This will help minimize the spread of Covid-19 infections and allow for social distancing on pay days.” SASSA explained in a statement.

Approved beneficiaries will be reviewed monthly to ensure that they still meet the requirements to receive payments.
